AGP-Bus nur für Grafikkarten? -> scheinbar nicht nur ...

  • Ich bin per Zufall auf einen Beitrag gestoßen, der mein sicher geglaubtes Wissen etwas ins Wanken gebracht hat:

    Bisher bin ich immer davon ausgegangen, dass der AGP-BUS nur für Grafikkarten ist/war.


    Wie jemand in dem folgenden Link zeigt, ist das aber wohl nicht ganz richtig:

    5.3.6 Support for PCI-66 Devices The MCH’s AGP interface may be used as a PCI-66 MHz interface with the following restrictions: 1. Support for 1.5 V operation only. 2. Support for only one device. The MCH will not provide arbitration or electrical support for more than one PCI-66 device. 3. The PCI-66 device must meet the AGP 2.0 electrical specification. […] There are some more limitations following, but this shows that Intel officially supported the use of the AGP as 66 MHz PCI for their “entry level” server chipset. –

  • Laut Wikipedia gab es RAID Controller für den AGP slot.


    Ich meine mich zu erinnern damals bei Fujitsu Siemens mal einen in der Hand gehabt zu haben. Aber eingesetzt wurden sie zumindest bei FSC nie.

    - Siemens Scenic 560, Pentium 3 450 650MHz, D1115, 256MB Ram, SoundBlaster AWE 64, Nvidia Quadro 2 Pro, Windows 98SE

    - Fujitsu Siemens Celsius 460, Pentium 4 S423 1,7 GHz, Fujitsu Siemens D1194, 512 MB RDRAM, ASUS V9560XT 128MB, Windows 98SE/Windows 2000

  • Mich hat eigentlich am meisten verblüfft, dass ich in den 40+ Jahren, die ich an (meist älteren) Rechner schraube, noch nie etwas davon mitbekommen hatte.


    Obwohl es eigentlich nur logisch ist, dass sich jemand findet, der so eine Schnittstelle anders nutzt als üblicherweise vorgesehen. Das war bisher noch immer so ... ;)


    Wie heißt es so schön: man wird alt wie eine Kuh und lernt immer noch was dazu ... :D :D :D

  • Im privaten Umfeld hab ich das nie gesehen. Nur eben bei FSC in der Entwicklung.

  • Genau das eine Device ist ja auch der show stopper. Im Regelfall müssen die Daten ja schnell rein und raus...
